Every Official Member of SWORD in One Piece, Ranked (2025)

The world of One Piece has many powerful characters who easily accomplish the impossible. Several of these impressive individuals are members of the secret Marine agency, SWORD. Fan-favorite characters, like Koby, participate in the organization to help the world unabated by the World Government's stringent rules. However, by enrolling in the organization, its members have acknowledged that they are no longer officially Marines and will not receive assistance should they be injured or captured. Yet, this elusive status means that other members of the mysterious group could still be revealed.

There have even been examples of Pirates like X-Drake who are secretly members of SWORD. These informants work to infiltrate dangerous pirate groups and report back to the Marines. Furthermore, some fans theorize that Kuzan could be in SWORD. Nevertheless, Drake is currently the only pirate confirmed to be a member of this illustrious organization. However, it is possible that more participants of this group could come to light before the anime ends. Although the organization largely remains secretive, some of the strongest One Piece characters are secretly members of SWORD.

6 Hibari Easily Incapacitates a Group of Opponents

She Is a Long Range Sniper, like Usopp

Hibari is one of the most interesting marines in the series. Although she doesn't appear to possess Devil Fruit powers, she still competes against many powerful opponents. Like Usopp, she is a long-range fighter and prefers to pick off her opponents from afar. She is one of the most accurate snipers in the series, with abilities on par with Van Augur. To protect Koby, she effortlessly shoots her bullets into the gun barrels of many pirates, rendering their weapons inoperable. This is an insane feat of accuracy that is often overlooked by fans. While she might not be as powerful as other SWORD members, she is still heavily underestimated.

Like many other members of SWORD, Hibari's feats have not been shown in depth. Hibari will probably serve as Usopp's foil should Koby officially go after Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hats. Due to her accuracy, it isn't a stretch to surmise that Hibari has Advanced Observation Haki. Although she has yet to predict the future, her accuracy is nearly supernatural. However, Hibari is very emotional and unlikely to defeat anyone at close range. This makes her vastly inefficient compared to other members of SWORD.

5 Helmeppo Has Received Training From Garp

He Begins the Series as a Minor Antagonist

Helmeppo has some of the richest character development in the entire shonen. He goes from being a minor antagonist to a respected marine. Although he is still tasked with capturing Luffy, he now does so with a sense of poise and respect. Like Koby, he has received direct training from Monkey D. Garp, yet he does not attain the heights of some of Garp's other students. Nevertheless, Helmeppo proves time and time again that the most valuable quality a Marine can have is his heart. Despite being outmatched and one of the weaker fighters in SWORD, he attempts to save Koby without hesitation.

He is one of the weaker members of SWORD physically, but he has come so far through the anime. Many fans are shocked to watch him continue to become stronger. He somehow masters several of the Navy's most powerful abilities that enable him to transcend his body's limits. Although he would still lose a fight against the Straw Hats, his full power has not been shown. While he does not go to the same lengths as Koby, he still puts everything into his work. He is a member of SWORD for a reason. Despite not holding a candle to characters like Luffy, he is one of the stronger Marines. Yet, he is far from the strongest.

4 Prince Grus Has Interesting Devil Fruit Powers

He Is Often Jealous of Koby's Popularity

Prince Grus has some of One Piece's most interesting Devil Fruit abilities. They are the perfect mix of Katakuri and Cracker's powers. He can create massive structures and objects out of clay. Furthermore, the golems he creates possess a certain level of consciousness, like Cracker's biscuit soldiers. While he has not demonstrated the ability to coat his clay in Haki, as a rear-admiral he could plausibly replicate some of Katakuri's stronger attacks. Yet, he prefers to attack indirectly and let his clay golems do most of the fighting. Nonetheless, his creations are exceedingly capable and have proven their strength in the anime.

While Grus does come to Koby's aid, he seemingly harbors a lot of jealousy towards the Navy Hero. Grus has become a capable Marine in his own right, but despises the attention Koby derives. Nevertheless, he sees Koby as a treasured ally despite any resentment he might bear. Although he mostly desires to fight indirectly, he has demonstrated the ability to create clay weapons several times. However, he isn't at his full strength without his golems and would likely lose a close-range battle against the series' more competent fighters. Furthermore, it is unclear how his puppets would react to powerful Haki, and they have the potential to be rendered useless.

3 Kujaku Is Tsuru's Granddaughter

She Offers a Unique Insight into Navy Families

Kujaku is Vice-Admiral Tsuru's granddaughter, whose Devil Fruit abilities have almost endless possibilities. She can somehow command inanimate objects to bend to her will. With her amazing powers, she can even compel giant buildings to begin to move. Furthermore, her powers could also theoretically work on people. This means that she could compel some of the most powerful fighters to aid her in battle if she could get close enough to hit them with her whip. However, like many members of SWORD, the full extent of her abilities has yet to be shown. However, Kujaku and the rest of SWORD will likely reappear more regularly as the anime begins to conclude.

Kujaku is the perfect example of what Garp wants for Luffy. She is a highly ranked Marine and expresses a great deal of respect towards her grandmother, Tsuru. Overall, she is probably everything that Garp had hoped Luffy would become. Yet, Kujaku is not the most powerful fighter in SWORD. Although her Devil Fruit powers have interesting connotations, someone like Luffy would likely be immune to them. Though she is said to have skilled fighting abilities, she primarily relies on her Devil Fruit abilities, which could put her at a disadvantage. Ultimately, Kujaku is a competent and experienced member of SWORD, but she cannot compare to its more proficient members.

2 X Drake Infiltrates the Beast Pirates

He is a Member of the Worst Generation

X Drake is one of SWORD's most interesting members. Shockingly, he has been deep undercover since leaving the Navy. Furthermore, his Ancient Zoan Tyranysourus Devil Fruit makes him one of the most widely known pirates, which makes his classified information even more surprising. Despite being a member of the Worst Generation and an eventual member of the Beast Pirates, he has been secretly serving the Marines the whole time. He feeds the Marine's information until Kaido is ultimately defeated. However, as a member of SWORD, he is prevented from associating with the Navy in any way. Although he works to defeat Kaido with the Straw Hats during Wano, his status as a Marine makes him the crew's enemy.

While several members of the Straw Hats, including Sanji, have interacted with Drake, it's unlikely that he will be a frequent ally. In fact, due to his role in the Navy, Drake is much more likely to be an enemy than an ally. Yet, Drake is one of the most likely candidates to leave the Marines once the World Government's true face is shown. Like many other members of SWORD, Drake believes in his moral character above all else and is unlikely to support any of Imu's further actions once they are exposed. Yet, he continues to serve the Marines despite tragedies like Ohara and Lulusia, becoming more relevant as Imu gets closer to being discovered.

1 Koby Is Considered a Hero of The Marines

He Has Achieved Much of the Same Acclaim as Garp

Koby is one of the first One Piece characters introduced in the entire series. However, despite currently serving on a pirate ship, he dreams of becoming a Hero of the Marines. He has undoubtedly accomplished this after the Rocky Port incident. Fans of the show have watched Koby soar from his meager beginnings due to his unyielding desires. Like Luffy, he refuses to give up and continues to train until he becomes one of the strongest combatants in the shonen. While he hasn't fought anyone seriously in an all-out brawl, he dishes out powerful punches on par with Vice-Admiral Garp's.

Overall, Koby has achieved his dreams and more. He evolved so far from the weakling fans met in the first episode. He is capable of dismantling entire mountains with a single, powerful punch. It is no wonder that he has become a well-known Marine Hero. Furthermore, while many people originally thought that Smoker would be the one to chase after Luffy, it looks like Koby will be the one to fulfill this role. Their friendship mirrors the relationship between Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger. Hopefully, the former friends have a meaningful and entertaining battle to conclude the shonen.
